I learned from today's S*P (though it was apparently Slashdotted a few days ago) that Joel Hodgson and company (by which I mean most of the original cast of MST3K) will soon be launching a new movie-riffing project called Cinematic Titanic. The first show (done for a live audience) will be Dec. 7 at Industrial Light and Magic (non-Lucas Films employees and VIPs need not apply). They will reportedly release one "episode" per month for the next year, available for download or on DVD. Charlie at the Parry Game Preserve pointed me to this interesting article at StarWars.com. (Note the multiple references to cinematic masterpiece, Zardoz.)
I wonder what, if any, relation this project has to Mike Nelson's RiffTrax. It seems like they are non-competing products: whereas RiffTrax can basically use any movie without worrying about licensing and with quick turn around, Cinematic Titanic is much more like the original MST3K in conception. But the similarities do seem to raise some questions.
